SPOILERS: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Producers On Tonight's Massive Revelations

Well, that was some mid-season finale eh? We had confirmations galore, including the reveal that Skye is indeed the Marvel character Daisy Johnson, aka Quake, making her father an incarnation of Calvin Zabo, aka the supervillain known as Mister Hyde. It's also finally been made official that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D will be first to introduce The Inhumans (and yes, the Terrigen mists are involved!) ahead of their big-screen debut in 2018. But of course, there's time for plenty more to be set up before that, so THR sat down with the show's executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen to get their thoughts on these amazing developments, and what might be next on the agenda.

What was the toughest part about getting this episode right?

Tancharoen: We're revealing a bunch of huge things in our mythology. It's something we've been building since the beginning of the show. We're very excited that we're finally revealing that Skye is Daisy Johnson. We're also excited that we are the first to sort of dive into this new territory in the Marvel universe.: That's first.

How did it come about that you got to introduce the Inhumans?

Whedon: Everything with Marvel is a large process. There are a lot of people in the mix and a lot of properties and obviously there are huge films that have been announced and scripts that have been announced. Anytime we play in the MCU, we have to go through a process of clearing ideas. This was a situation where we were allowed to explore this on our own.

Tancharoen: it's a territory that we've had our sights on since the beginning of the series.

What is happening next in the SHIELD world?

Tancharoen: In us opening up this new territory, we hope there is an abundance of places and characters to discover.

Whedon: We've stepped into a new world, so we get to answer some question and discover some new mysteries. Seeing how our team is affected by 2014.

There's more from them at the link below, but that's not all we got to chew on from tonight's ep. This visually challenged gentleman below was introduced right at the end:

unnamed

Who could he be? Well, ComicBook.com have an interesting theory -- they reckon he might be a character named Reader, who was only introduced fairly recently in the pages of Marvel's Inhuman comic. Now that we know all of this is connected and has been planned out way ahead of time, it's definitely as good a guess as any.
