Marvel E-i-C Axel Alonso On PREACHER Becoming An AMC LiveAction TV Show

Anyone familiar with Garth Ennis and the stellar work he's done for Vertigo Comics has to be positively giddy with the news that the television network behind The Walking Dead is set to bring Ennis and Dillon's crazy vision of a deity-imbued Texas preacher and his mission to bring God to task for abandoning his creations. Working alongside Ennis and Dillon at Vertigo was Axel Alonso, the man most people know as the Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics. Here's his reaction to the news that AMC is moving forward with its plans for a live-action Preacher tv series. "Love it [that AMC is moving forward]. It's long overdue. I miss editing that book. Don't miss wondering if I still had a job after an issue came out, though. [Laughs] Yeah, it's been talked about for some time -- both as a feature film and TV series, which it's much better suited to. I'm really curious to see how the story gets adapted, because there's only so much that you can tone down the source material before you destroy it. On the surface, it's a macabre spaghetti western, but it's got a lot to say about the society, organized religion, and just how plain #$%#$ed up people can be. The network that does it needs to be brave."

Alonso touches on a question nearly every Preacher fan must be asking themselves, "Just how is AMC, a basic-cable network, going to stay true to source material that has such a decidedly dark and satirical slanton religion, racism and America in general?" If Rogen and Goldberg nail down the script, Preacher has the potential to surpass The Walking Dead as the most-watched television show on TV. Hopefully, they succeed and that sparks renewed interest in a few other Ennis properties (such as The Boys).
