Cinematic universes are all the rage. You can blame Marvel and The Avengers for that. By now you should know Alex Kurtzman ("Stark Trek Into Darkness") has been put in charge of Universal's classic movie monster cinematic universe. The Mummy reboot, which is slated for a June 24, 2016 release, was supposed to kick things off but it may have unexpectedly begun with this summer's Dracula Untold . Then a week ago, Universal announced a April 21, 2017 release date for a mystery monster movie that will follow The Mummy. Could that film be a reboot of The Wolf Man ?
Despite a lack of superheroes, Universal Pictures continues to bolster its franchises. The studio is going hard to revive its classic monsters franchises–I’m hearing that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski is being courted to get the Wolf Man howling again, after Uni rebooted The Mummy.
In 1941, Universal had a monster-sized hit with The Wolf Man . It starred Lon Chaney Jr. as Lawrence Talbot, a man that comes back home after the death of his brother. Lawrence is attacked and bitten by a werewolf, which leads to him becoming a werewolf. Universal previously rebooted the film with 2010's The Wolfman , which starred Benicio del Toro.
The Wolfman (2010) - Academy Award®-winners Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic) tear up the screen in this action-packed thriller. Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro) is lured back to his family estate to investigate the savage murder of his brother by a bloodthirsty beast. There, Talbot must confront his childhood demons, his estranged father (Hopkins), his brother's grieving fiancée (Emily Blunt, The Devil Wears Prada) and a suspicious Scotland Yard Inspector (Hugo Weaving, The Matrix trilogy). When Talbot is bitten by the creature, he becomes eternally cursed and soon discovers a fate far worse than death. Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Watch the never before seen unrated version.
