Christopher Nolan recently cited Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey as a major inspiration for Interstellar, and since that there's been a lot of excited re-visitations of not only that film, but the novel from Arthur C. Clarke upon which it's based. Now SyFy have announced that they plan to adapt Clarke's 3001: The Final Odyssey into a miniseries, which is to be produced by Ridley Scott’s company Scott Free and be written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Collateral). The second novel in the series, 2010, was adapted as an underrated 1984 movie from director Peter Hyams, but the third book (2061) was never touched despite interest from Tom Hanks in producing a film around the time of publication. 3001 directly ties into, and resolves, the events of 2001, beginning with the discovery of Frank Poole’s (the astronaut thought to be murdered by Hal 9000) frozen body floating in space.
