Christopher Nolan's Interstellar scored a very respectable $52M over the weekend, but coming out on top with their biggest stand-alone weekend ever (topping a $49m debut for Wreck It Ralph last year) was Disney Animation, with a $56.2M for Big Hero 6. This won't come as too much of a surprise, and the exact number predictions were actually pretty spot on too. Interstellar's second place spot marks the first time a Christopher Nolan flick has not debuted at #1 since Insomnia back in 2002. Though popular enough with most critics, the movie didn't get the universal acclaim many expected it would, and this may have hurt it slightly. Then again, it was going up against a Disney cartoon about superheroes featuring an adorable, pudgy robot -- did it ever stand a chance?
