Namor The Submarine Marvel Studios May Have The Rights To Namor After All

In a new interview with IGN, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige discusses the studio's next feature, Guardians Of The Galaxy, and if there's a possibility of another character Vin Diesel (Groot) could wind up playing further down the line. Funnily enough, Diesel has been many fan's pick for Namor, and the site finish up the interview by asking Feige about the volatile Sub-Mariner. Although we've never really had any concrete info regarding Marvel's plans for this character, most have felt it's only a matter of time before he makes his big-screen debut. but, a while ago a rumor emerged that another studio actually held the rights and were planning a Namor movie themselves. Now, Feige confirms that Marvel do have the rights, but...it's complicated!

IGN: Finally, there were rumors circulating awhile back that Universal and Legendary Pictures were developing a Sub-Mariner movie, but there was also some confusion about who holds the rights to the character. So could Legendary make that movie at this point?

Feige: No.

IGN: So if a film were to happen it would be you guys making it?

Feige: Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.

So, although Marvel CAN make the movie, it sounds like some messy legal stuff means they probably won't..at least in the foreseeable future.
