When we watch films there is always a sound track. The track is always made so it can fit the film it is in. If you are watching a heavy action film like Die Hard, the track would be that of Rock 'n Roll. If you are watching a spy movie like James Bond, the track could be Classical. But ComicBook Based films are odd. Because you could honestly put any song to a CBM and it would sound pretty good. So I'm here to break down my viewpoint on the subject.
Hip-Hop/Classical
This year (2014), The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now not to long ago, we got word that Pharrell and Hans Zimmer would be collaborating on the sound track for the film.
Now when I heard this news, I thought for a second, "Thats kind of odd. A hip-hop artist composing music with a classical artist.", but then I thought about how that could sound pretty darn awesome on screen. Mixing those 2 genre's together could be something that would add to the film in a positive way. Because the way I now look at it, music is like food. You can mix all kinds of food together, and they may taste like crap. But, certain ones can be mixed together and they just blow your mind.
This leads me to my next talking point, imagine if the film The Avengers didn't have AC/DC in it, but instead had Beethoven. For example when Iron Man comes flying in to help Cap fight Loki, imagine if Beethoven was playing instead of AC/DC. I personally think that'd be pretty darn cool. And I use that as an example of how any form/type of music could fit into any ComicBook movie. Now would it fit perfectly ALL the time? Probably not. Like if you were to play jingle-bells during a death scene. It would seem rather odd. Would it be bad? No, it would just be odd.
Rock 'n Roll/Rap
Rap music and Rock 'n Roll, I feel they are not used as much as they possibly could. Again, I am going to ask you to imagine, this time I want you to picture a scene in the Dark Knight where Batman is beating dudes left and right, and instead of Hans Zimmer music in the background, you'd hear Kanye Wests 'Jesus Walks' playing. Now that may seem odd, but it just might work. I feel as if that song could add some weight to the scene. Here is just one lyric from the song:
As the lyrics show you he is talking about some of the things Batman himself fights against. And because of that, I think it would fit into a fight scene in a Batman film perfectly. Now some of you may laugh at Kanye West (yes, he does some really strange and stupid stuff), but some of his songs I've heard like the one quoted, could fit into a ComicBook movie.
If you don't know who Awolnation is, they are a Rock/Techno group. So let that image get planted in your head. Now picture Awolnation's 'Burn it Down' playing in Green Lantern. Maybe a scene where Hal is flying through space fighting Parallax. That scene would be in perfect harmony with that song because it is a fast pace heavy type of song. It would really embody the character and speak volumes about him. It would show us the viewer that he is fighting till his last breath, not going to give up.
So those are just some of the thoughts I had on the subject, as always please like and comment below. Give me your thoughts on the matter.
