Marvel's THOR: THE DARK WORLD Opens To $7.1 Million On Midnight Screenings

Per The Hollywood Reporter "Thor: The Dark World grossed a strong $7.1 million as it opened in North America Thursday night. They go on to say that the movie "has already earned more than $150 million overseas, where it began rolling out last weekend. The movie's international total through Thursday is $152.8 million. It opens Friday in a raft of other markets, including China."

To put this in perspective, 'Thor' grossed $3.2 million in midnight screenings in the Summer of 2011, which makes these numbers much more impressive for a Fall release. Likewise, 'Thor: The Dark World' is on pace to cross $300 million worldwide by the end of this weekend, which would already be two thirds of the originals total gross of $449.3 million globally. It is important to keep in mind that 'The Avengers Effect' combined with the heightened profile of both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are likely large contributors to these numbers.

Tracking numbers place Thor The Dark World on track for a $90 million dollar opening, though this number looks to increase due to high interest in all quadrants, especially females. The record for a early November opening weekend is $88 Million dollars by last years 'Skyfall', and the overall November record is held by 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' which opened on November 20th and grossed $142.8 million in it's first 3 days of release.

Looks like if numbers hold steady Marvel will have another blockbuster in the bag. How much do you guys think 'Thor: The Dark World' will gross in the US by the end of this weekend?
