According to The Wall Street Journal, it will be announced this week that Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark will close in January. The $75 million musical opened in June 2011 and was plagued with problems from the start, including six actors being injured and director Julie Taymor fired from the show so it could undergo a complete overhaul after a wave of negative reviews. While it's among the top shows for attendance figures, it constantly fails to break even and will take advantage of holiday-ticket sales before closing. I saw the show when I visited New York earlier this year and it was indeed terrible. You can read my review by clicking HERE. It's really that bad.
