It's been a good year for Disney. After the success of both Iron Man 3 and Monsters University, Thor: The Dark World is yet another tick in the win column for the studio. The Alan Taylor helmed sequel crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office yesterday and has been the #1 movie internationally since opening over three weeks ago. With $152 million domestically and $352 million overseas, it's current global cume is $504 million. This means that it has already passed the totals of both the first Thor ($449 million) and Captain America: The First Avenger ($371 million). The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will undoubtedly slow down the God of Thunder's momentum, but Marvel Studios are surely now thinking up plans for a third instalment...

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
