Last night's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was surprisingly good, and this is coming from someone that's been incredibly frustrated with the show since the pilot episode. However, the tie-in with Thor: The Dark World was extremely superficial and really had nothing to do with the episode. Ahead of the tie-in ep airing on ABC, executive producer Jed Whedon spoke with TV Guide about the possibility of a similar connection with the Russo Bros.' Captain America: The Winter Soldier Said Whedon, "We're trying to flesh out the world. The Marvel brand carries with it a lot of familiar faces. We're trying to flesh out the world of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the established characters and the characters we're introducing to build out the larger organization that we operate in." In respect to a connection with the events of The Winter Soldier he added, "Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is in that one, and S.H.I.E.L.D. makes an appearance, so we will definitely try to tee-up some stuff and probably play a little bit of the fallout from that film. We're hoping to do some cool stuff."
Whedon also teases more cameos on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but not from a Marvel character but from the living legend who helped create the company. "I would say there's a strong chance [of Stan Lee showing up]," was all Whedon would say on the matter.
