Suicide Squad is shaping up to be one of the most exciting projects listed in that massive slate of DC movies announced by Warner Bros. last week. Not only is David Ayer (End Of Watch, Fury) on board to direct, but the likes of Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie (with Ryan Gosling rumored) are said to be close to signing on to star. During an interview with Empire, Ayer doesn't mention any of the potential cast, but he does give fans an idea of what they can expect from the plot by comparing it to a classic 1967 war film -- and also might just confirm that a team mainstay in the comics will indeed make the jump to the big screen. "Fury whetted my appetite for a bigger canvas and this idea of world creation,” he tells the mag. “You can do amazing things as a filmmaker if you have the proper tools, and those are time and money. I can say that it’s a Dirty Dozen with supervillains. Then I can ask the question, ‘Does a movie really need good guys? That's a questions many fans have been asking since the movie was announced, but Ayer seems confident he can pull it off. Empire throw the name of one of the more unsavoury villains in the Squad, Aussie racist "Digger" Harkness aka Captain Boomerang, at the director to ask how he'd go about casting him. “Like one would cast any other role,” Ayer replied, apparently confirming the character's involvement. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to do what I do in my typical fever dream of directing.”. More at the link below.
