When asked by CraveOnline if he's talking with Marvel Studios about directing a superhero movie, after helping out on the Ant-Man script rewrites, Adam McKay teased---
"I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with [Marvel] that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on."
McKay's film sensibilities are definitely skewed towards comedy, with a long stint directing/writing "Saturday Night Live", and then moving on to hilarious comedic films such as "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Bergandy", "Step Brothers" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby". Still, don't let that fool you into believing Marvel would only utilize McKay for a comedic film. Remember, prior to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, director sibling duo, The Russo Bros., were best known for "Community".
Looking at Marvel's currently announced slate of films, it's hard to imagine where McKay would fit in amongst the already announced titles. The Russo Bros. are working on Captain America 3 and are rumored to be the front runners for The Avengers 3 and 4. James Gunn is returning for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. And Scott Derrickson is hard at work, developing Doctor Strange. Perhaps there's a clue in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. The split-second glimpse of Andy Serkis in the trailer has led many to speculate that he's playing Ulysses Klaw, a chief antagonist for Black Panther. Is it possible that the King of Wakanda will be the next big movie announcement from Marvel Studios? Would McKay be the right director for the project?
Could McKay direct a solo feature for one of these Marvel heroes?
Is Andy Serkis playing Ulysses Klaw? Is a Black Panther movie on the horizon?
