Sony Buys 2014 Super Bowl Television Spot For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

We already knew from Michael Bay that a Transformers: Age of Extinction Super Bowl television spot was coming, but outside of that we weren't too sure which other films would be represented, until now. According to Deadline , Sony will also market Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 during the American football event.

Sony will use the Super Bowl to advertise its rebooted superhero franchise installment The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which will open in May in IMAX 3D and conventional theaters.

Also of interest, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. did not purchase a single spot, and that Lionsgate bought a Super Bowl pre-game spot, but at this time they did not know for which film. I'm assuming it would be for Divergent, which opens in March a month after the Super Bowl. As for Disney, they bought one TV spot, but they haven't decide which film they are going to promote in that slot. Once again, best guess would be Aaron Paul's Need for Speed, which opens March 14. In total, four studios have purchased spot. Last year, eight studios bout television spots. Universal is the most noticeable absence. Last year they purchased a sixty-second TV spot to promote Fast & Furious 6.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.
