Imogen Poots Need for Speed movie

Imogen Poots on Need For Speed.

"”It’s a pretty crazy movie, based on a video game called Need for Speed. It’s essentially, a race across the States, they only have 48 hrs to get from New York to California but a lot of obstacles show their faces. It was a great film to make in a sense because the director used to be a stunt man and so he very much directed the film from that point of view and that perspective. So all of the stunts are authentic and real, there’s no cgi. Working with Aaron [Paul] was great. We worked together before on a Nick Hornby film/adaptation called A Long Way Down so we’re kind of already close by that point because when you’re in a car with someone for a really long time, you kind of have to get along. So it was cool, it was terrific, I got to see a lot of the States.”

On how Need for Speed will distinguish itself from other racing genre movies.

"Certainly the stunt perspective, if you’re into that kind of thing. It’s throwback and it’s real. But also, there’s a real story at the core of it. There’s a lot of action taking place and the fun of making a film like that is that it’s kind of tongue-in-cheek. If you’re taking yourself too seriously in the making of it then it kind of feels like you’re going down the wrong path. You have to have some fun because the fact that I’m in a film called Need for Speed is fundamentally ludicrous [laughs]. So it was cool, I was happy to to be a part of it.”

On her character in the film.

"It’s very much the duo [of her character and Aaron Paul's] who are traveling together. The director really wanted there to be a conflict between the two characters initially. It’s fun exploring that kind of relationship in a very confined environment like a [Ford] Mustang. But it was great fun.”
