According to Deadline, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug now looks set to open a little lighter than The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey did this time last year. Opening estimates for the three-day weekend are currently around $70 million - $73 million. That's roughly $10 million less than the first instalment, but these are still very early estimates and subject to change. Either way, it's still thought that the sequel will manage to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The movie will also add $8.8 million ($1.2 million of which was from IMAX theaters) to its final weekend total thanks to midnight screenings. Meanwhile, Disney's Frozen is set to take the #2 spot with an estimated total of $24 million and Thor: The Dark World will finally push its domestic cume past $200 million this weekend with a haul of $3 million. What are you guys seeing?
