Hayao Miyazaki Retiring From Anime For Samurai Manga

If you're an anime fan, then you'll know the name Hayao Miyazaki of Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service and a whole host of other celebrated works. The 72-year-old director recently announced his retirement, making The Wind Rises his final anime movie. But he's not quietly riding off into the sunset. Miyazaki confirmed during his retirement tv special on Japanese television that he's begun work on a samurai manga set during Japan's Sengoku period or "Warring States Period". The manga will run in an unspecified magazine in Japan but I'm sure it will become serialized here in the States rather quickly. You can get a glimpse of Miyazaki's illustrations in the images below.

The Wind Rises will get a limited theatrical run here in the US starting February 21, 2014. Residents of New York and Los Angeles will get to see the film earlier on November 8.
