First Wave Of DRACULA UNTOLD Reviews Are Pretty Vlad

Hollywood Reporter: "Genre fans will no doubt chafe at the film’s PG-13 demureness"

"Making his feature debut, director Gary Shore displays little flair for the action sequences, with such stylistic devices as using Vlad’s POV for several scenes adding to the overall cheesiness. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless’ muddled screenplay seems so intent on providing a Maleficent-style revisionist spin that it’s hard to believe that this heroic and sympathetic figure will ever wind up tormenting the nightmares of children for centuries to come." - Frank Scheck

The Wrap: "Far too restrained and tasteful"

"For about the first hour of its running time, “Dracula Untold” is far too restrained and tasteful, and it certainly suffers from its tediously noble hero; it's well made but fatally lacking in thrills or excitement. There are some modest battles here and there, but only Gadon's lovely face seems truly worthy of the camera's time until the last half hour, when the film springs to at least half life with several very imaginative images that make use of swarms of bats." - Dan Callahan

List Film: "Luke Evans & Charles Dance impress in an otherwise mishandled origin story"

"More problematic is the feel of the film, it's an underwhelming debut from director Gary Shore. The special effects just don’t seem, well, special; while anyone expecting a scary old time will be sorely disappointed. Po-faced and humourless, the story also feels stripped bare, lacking any real flesh on its bones. Attempting to play to the same crowd as Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula did, it never quite gets there. The cast sink their teeth in but the resulting film is surprisingly bloodless. " - James Mottram

Matt's Movie Reviews: "A bloodless, directionless affair"

"It’s clear that Dracula Untold is gunning for the superhero market in its rebranding of the character as a Batman meets Superman meets Nosferatu hybrid, yet its lack of presence and identity does it no favours. And while Evans has the look and the chops to become a blockbuster megastar, he needs a much better film than Dracula Untold to make that promised ascension a reality." - Matt

Screen Daily: ""

"" -

: "A comic book action-adventure with fantasy-horror elements"

"Though the title suggests that director Gary Shore and screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are convinced they’ve hit on a new angle, this feels like a feature-length expansion of the prologue of Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula." -

Variety: "This dull origin story about history's most famous vampire"

"“Dracula Untold” is too high-minded to let go into the kind of energetic, B-movie escapism a director like John Carpenter or Paul W.S. Anderson might have brought to the same material, while the material itself is too thin to support the heavy-handed Wagnerian approach. The result is finally something neither here nor there — a vampire movie with nothing at stake." - Scott Foundas

Opens in theaters October 10th!

Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, Immortals) stars in Dracula Untold, the origin story of the man who became Dracula. Gary Shore directs and Michael De Luca produces the epic action-adventure that co-stars Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Diarmaid Murtagh and Samantha Barks.

Starring: Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dominic Cooper, Samantha Barks

Directed By Gary Shore * Screenplay By Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless

GOTHAM Ratings Slip Slightly During Second Week But BATMAN Prequel Still Going Strong

With shows like Castle, The Big Bang Theory and WWE Raw all vying for the attention of television viewers last night, Gotham continues to do well suffering a drop of only 13% (though some sites say it is was low as 11% or 12%). This is considered "standard second-week slippage" according to Entertainment Weekly , and though the Network would liked to have seen a great retention of viewers, this is by no means a bad result. Those DVR figures for the series premiere last week showed what a difference thy can make too. Total viewership was 7.3 million viewers, 2.8 adults 18-49 rating, and it's worth noting that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suffered a second episode drop of a whopping 34% last year, so Gotham is doing just fine! Did you tune in last night?

Sounds Like SPOILER Is Coming To GOTHAM - Is An ARROW Crossover Possible?

In last night's second episode of Gotham, it's made pretty clear that The Dollmaker is the villain behind the kidnapping of various homeless children in the city. Although the character doesn't actually appear, it's surely only a matter of time before he makes his presence felt in future episodes. Fans of the CW's Arrow will be aware that the Dollmaker also showed up on that show in a second season episode, and was played by Michael Eklund. Could they be the same character?

Well, though DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are behind both of these shows, they are on different networks and are (presumably) set in different timelines, since Bruce Wayne is just a child and Oliver Queen is well into his crime-fighting career. That being said, it’s not unheard of for networks to cross two shows over, and we know that Arrow's Dollmaker terrorized the city long before returning to give Queen a headache. Of course they may not even be different takes on the same character, as the Dollmaker moniker has been taken on by 3 separate villains in the DC Universe.

But even if they are never explicitly stated as being the same Dollmaker and different actors plat the roles, it's always possible that some rough continuity will exist or at least be hinted at. What do you guys think?

Ror Reviews: GOTHAM Season 1, Episode 2 - "Selina Kyle"

After a decent pilot, Fox's Gotham returned tonight with a significantly better second episode. "Selina Kyle", as the title infers, places the focus on the acrobatic young street kid (she likes to be called "Cat"; evidently saving the "Woman" for when she's a bit older) who witnessed the Wayne murders in the first ep. This time though, she's a witness to another crime: The abduction of some of her street pals by a couple of sinisterly friendly crims (guest stars Frank Whaley and Lili Taylor). As Gordon and Bullock get word and set out to investigate, to avoid a trip to juvenile detention Selina decides to find Gordon first and tell him what she knows about who really killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. Meanwhile, the increasingly psychopathic Oswald manages to hitch a ride and hatches a scheme to get some cash and return to Gotham to seek revenge.

There's much more going on too (Allen and Montoya's investigation of the GCPD, the latter's past relationship with Barbara Kean, Bruce attempting to "test himself" and Alfred worrying etc) but unlike the pilot which at times felt a bit overstuffed, this flows a lot better. Alfred in particular gets a lot more to do, and it seems clear they're going with a slightly more disciplinarian take on Bruce's faithful butler -- though actor Sean Pertwee also allows warmth and caring to shine through. We also finally get to hear Selina Kyle speak and interact with other main characters, and young Camren Bicondova does a fine job. The highlight is still the volatile partnership (friendship?) between Gordom and Bullock though. Donal Logue and Ben McKenzie have great chemistry, and in just like in all the best buddy-cop movies, we see the respect they have for each other despite their vastly different ways of doing things. Then there's Robin Lord Taylor's unhinged Penguin-in-training. Once again he delivers a great, creepy performance as the pathetic but very dangerous Oswald. His inevitable reunion with both Gordon and Fish Mooney should be worth waiting for.

There are still some issues though. Once again there's some silliness on display along with the grit and grime, and though some works, most does not and only winds up jarring. You may remember the clip from the weekend which saw Selina urges a terrified youngster to "go for the eyes" if anyone picked on him? Well late in the ep "Cat" takes her own advice...and actually rips someone's eyes out! OTT enough as that is, the scene is then played for laughs as Lili Taylor's character puts him out of his misery. I suppose it's good to know that there's a bit of a sick sense of humour running through Gotham, but they'll really need to start integrating it a bit better.

Still, hopefully these are just teething problems because overall this is definitely an improvement. Pretty much all of the story strands should draw you in and leave you wanting the next episode straight away, and -- even if the script doesn't always do them justice -- the performances are top notch. If you still don't see the point of the show though, or feel that it's just not interesting enough given that we know where all of the characters ultimately end up, there's nothing here that's going to convince you otherwise. Two eps in and Gotham is shaping up to be a pretty good show, I'd be nice to have a great one soon though.

The Piano Guys Compose Every BATMAN Theme Into One

"Holy hemiola, Batman! 50 years of music and film all rolled together in front of the cars that have become icons of super hero history. This is one of those projects we’ve wanted to do from the very beginning of The Piano Guys. We love super heroes, the dramatic music that has brought them to life, and the vivid films that have made them legends. We used piano, cello, handheld cameras, a radio controlled helicopter, and some scrappy special effect techniques in the most creative ways possible to emulate the three epic eras of one of the greatest super heroes ever created: BATMAN!"

Feeling the nostalgia? I am! So what did you guys think?

Manu Bennett On Bringing 'Deathstroke' Back To ARROW; Wants To Share Scenes With 'Ra's Al Ghul'

Manu Bennett has arguably been one of THE best parts of Arrow since he first appeared as Slade Wilson in the first season, with his take on the costumed Deathstroke during the second taking the character to a level which has seen many fans demand that he play the villain on the big screen. During a recent appearance at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con (via ComicBook.com ), the actor was asked when we might see him return to The CW series. "Realistically, when we talk about storyline, they threw me into a really interesting place, Purgatory. And you know, I’m left at the end, shaking the bars, going, ‘I keep my promises, kid.’ And I think I meant it. So I don’t think that they are just going to let that voice subside into the vast abyss."

So, quite a vague answer there, but Bennett would go on to reveal that Deathstroke WILL return at some point in the future. "But at this stage, I don’t know. They said at the end of the season last year, they said, ‘Look, we want you back. We want you back.’ But there’s been no indication yet of how they’ll go about that at any point in time, right now." As for what he hopes to see the villain do when and if he does come back - hopefully sometime this year - The Hobbit star had this to say: "I know that Matt Nable, who’s an Australian actor who I worked with on the Sons of Anarchy kind-of-biker series last year, maybe just the year before in Australia, just got cast as Ra’s Al Ghul. I mean this guy was playing the head of the biker gang that I was in. I was the tough guy in the biker gang, but he was like the head. And he’s got such an intensity to him. But I don’t know, man, if it ever comes down to him and me facing off in a scene, "whew," I mean Stephen Amell is really going to have to bring it to the fire at that stage. It’s going to be two Aussies, it’s going to be an Aussie and New Zealander just sitting there and going “whew.” I look forward to that. Matt Nable is a great actor." When would like to see Deathstroke's return?
